Novato Fire Station 64
Commissioned for the Novato Fire Protection District, the new fire station will replace an existing, structurally compromised station on the same parcel. The new building is a 7,745 square foot, single-story, wood-framed structure with a 2-bay, double-deep, drive-thru apparatus bay. The exterior is a combination of low maintenance plaster, brick and phenolic wall panels designed to blend in with the surrounding neighborhood. The curved metal roof panels form a foundation for a 37 kilowatt solar array. Clerestory windows and skylights will bring natural light into all interior spaces. The fire suppression side of the station houses the 2,330 sf apparatus bay, workshop, hose room, turnout gear room and medical supply room. The living quarters of the station contain six, single-bed dormitories, private restrooms and showers, laundry, exercise room, and kitchen/dining room with separate dayroom. Staff lockers are designed to be accessed from either the dorm side or the corridor side, allowing off-shift personnel access to the lockers without disturbing resting on-duty staff. The long, narrow site accommodates public parking and engine washing in the front, with secure staff parking, refueling, emergency power and a covered patio in the rear. As currently designed, this project is anticipated to achieve Platinum Level LEED Certification. This project is expected to begin construction in early 2014 with completion in 2015.
