Brisbane Fire Station
This 7,700 sf fire station headquarters, staffed by paid firefighters, was designed as Phase 1 of a total building project to eventually include a 4,000 sf police station. Joint use and access of the lobby and dispatch (911) center were determining factors in placement of rooms and buildings on the site. Site for the project was very difficult as well, placing the new structure on top of the existing foundation and piles left over from the demolition of an old waste treatment facility next to the bay.
Using the Design Studio approach, the fire station was designed and working drawings completed in 97 days! This was less than the 100 day turn-around time the City had required of its A/E Team. The project included a 2-wide x 2-deep apparatus bay with vehicle exhaust system, administration offices, training room, communications dispatch center, lockers, dayroom and five dorm rooms. Site work included parking, driveways, utility improvements and mitigating measures to the adjacent waterway.
