Windsor Fire Headquarters
This fire protection facility includes three double-deep apparatus bays with vehicle exhaust system, tool room, volunteer entrance and turnout storage, lockers, exercise room, radio room, captain's office, dayroom, kitchen, dormitories, and training room/emergency operations center. The second floor includes administrative offices, lobby/reception area, fire marshal's office, staff lunchroom and conference room. The facility is designed with 1,800 square feet of built-in expansion area expected to meet the District's needs for the next twenty years, on a site that is approximately one acre.
This volunteer fire department has many special needs unique to those facilities, and special care was taken to address separation of volunteer and public parking and circulation patterns and parking areas. The partial two-story building has exterior cladding of stucco and brick with fire resistive cement fiber slate-like roofing which help it fit into its residential neighborhood. Special care was taken to locate second floor windows away from residences to protect the privacy of the back yards. Noise producing areas like the apparatus bay and emergency generator were located away from the residences and acoustically shielded.
